About Our JTR Kids Jujutsu Program

The Southern Maryland JTR Jujutsu Kids program classes build children’s confidence, physical strength, discipline, focus, and moral character. The class activity is highly structured with a multitude of fun conditioning exercises, martial arts movement combinations and several exciting games.  Children learn practical self-defense techniques, from the “non-sport” traditional martial arts philosophy. They learn about conflict resolution, de-escalation tactics to deal with aggressors they may encounter in their school or everyday life. Our classes are offered four days a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday). Physical conditioning is a significant part of the JTR Kids program. In a group setting children’s participate in high-intensity exercises building: strength, coordination, flexibility, endurance, agility, and balance.

All instructors have years of experiences in martial arts training. Each technique is taught with the child’s safety and well-being in mind; students are encouraged to use their heightened awareness to avoid injuries. The instructors’ emphasis upon the upstanding development of moral character is fierce and consistent.  Master Don, the school owner, is a doctor of physical therapy who has extensive experience working with children and in designing exercise programs for children with special needs.

During the quarterly promotional exams, children go before a board of examiners to show what they have learned.  If a student demonstrates an understanding of techniques per their skill level, the right attitude and consistent effort they will successfully be promoted in rank. The ascending rank is based on the color belt system moving up to a higher position of status, honor, and respect among his or her peers.  Also, the tests explore how each student comprehends and answers questions about the moral values that they are taught.
